Alberta: Beauty Within~Behind The Scenes

Photo shoots are one of my favorite things to be a part of. It is always so exciting~ filled with positive energy & so many creative minds! It is great to collaborate with other artists, whether it be other hair & makeup artists, the photographers, stylists and even the models. From start to finish it is amazing to see a vision come to life.

Avenue Beauty was approached by Kevin Nakonechny of NAKA Photography & Kendal Dyer of Midnightea Art & Photography to be a part of this amazing project called Alberta: Beauty Within.  It is a photo-series that showcases Alberta’s somewhat unknown, yet very impressive art scene. It is shot at a number of iconic settings throughout southern Alberta with ballerinas acting as visual symbols, representing the arts. This particular day, was for Part 2 of the series.

Both Heidi & I are born and raised Albertans. Heidi grew up in the wide open spaces of the country, & I myself from the bright lights of a big city. We felt that this project was a beautiful blend of both lifestyles & everything in between. It was a chance to help showcase the astonishing beauty Alberta has to offer.

Being so passionate about what we do, we wanted to share with you all a little start to finish photo series of our own, that takes you behind the scenes of a photo shoot, from the eyes of us, the hair & makeup artists. With the second series unveiling wrapping up, we thought it was perfect to show you a little of how the stunning pieces came to be. Enjoy!a

We wish we could all wake up looking polished and fresh- so an early start for us all prepping the models & driving out to our locations.

Below are a few ‘During & After” shots from the first half of our day. Its displays what we see as the photographers work with the models & scenery, and how they are able to captured that perfect moment on film.

We hit a little speed bump along the way….keys accidentally being locked in car, with most of the wardrobe in the backseat. This made the shoot a bit more exciting- a quick re-vamp of the initial vision the photographers had in mind as we only  had one outfit out for each ballerina. No biggie as it didn’t cut into our shooting time too much- thank goodness for AMA!

Our second half of the day took us down into the lower part of Dinosaur Provincial Park. Our guide Bob was amazing! He had so many options for some beautiful shots- he knew this park like the back of his hand! He was always the first to run up the rocks to make sure it was safe for anyone to climb up. Huge thanks to Bob! Continued  below are some more amazing “During & After” photos.

Amongst all the stills being captured, Heidi & myself manage to sneak in between shots to touch up the girls, keeping their look light & fresh. As with many photo shoots, you are always changing looks on the fly & having to turn cars into change rooms, and use other’s opinions as your mirror.

k

Another big thanks to Heidi’s mom for coming out to get a sneak a peek and for bringing us some twizzlers! Always a nice little snack to fuel us thru to the end of the day!

Thank you to everyone involved & for allowing us to continue to do what we are so passionate about & to be able to share that with so many others thru photography.

Specifically we  want to thank the ballerinas/models Teddie, Sarah & Emma for taking time to come out & to demonstrate your elegance & grace for the world to see. You ladies are so talented at what you do.

Big thanks to Kevin & Kendal for inviting us to be a part of this day! The images you captured are truly breath taking, & we continue to be inspired! Last but not least, we want to thank Bob our fabulous guide. Your expertise of the park provided us with some breathtaking backgrounds for our ballerinas.
